  • The Beach Haven School Awarded Sandy Relief Arts Education Grant from Young Audiences
    Grant harnesses the power of the arts to help with the healing and recovery process

    Beach Haven, New Jersey, The Beach Haven School has won a Sandy Relief Arts Education Grant from Young Audiences New Jersey & Eastern Pennsylvania (YA) valued at $10,000 . Funded in part through the New Jersey Recovery Fund and YA fundraising efforts, the grant will focus on the power of the arts as a vehicle for healing and recovery.

    The Beach Haven School will work closely with Young Audiences to develop arts programming that meets their students’ recovery needs. YA staff will draw from their wide range of programs to aid The Beach Haven School in its recovery process. With this collaboration with YA, the Beach Haven School hopes to strengthen our children’s identities and their bonds within our communities, help them build relationships and gain trust, and enhance their self-esteem, confidence and creativity.

    The Beach Haven School is one of 12 schools in the communities affected by Superstorm Sandy to be awarded this grant.“We are thrilled to receive this generous grant,” said EvaMarie Raleigh principal of The Beach Haven School “With the help of Young Audiences, we can offer our students inspiring, arts-rich experiences that will help build strength and character in our students as they cope with the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.” Beach Haven School’s application demonstrated a strong need and desire to offer its students a way to cope with the devastation of Hurricane Sandy —and what better way than through the healing power of the arts,” said Larry Capo, President & CEO of Young Audiences. “We look forward to working with the Beach Haven School’s Principal and school staff to plan a curriculum-based, engaging array of arts initiatives for students, teachers and families.

    The Beach Haven School will work closely with a YA staff member and our professional teaching artists to plan a performance and long-term artist-in-residence program based on their unique needs. The grant will provide funding for a variety of initiatives, including:

    • Provide arts experiences for children, their teachers that focus on healing;

    • Offer arts-based opportunities that aid schools in the recovery process;

    About the New Jersey Recovery Fund

    Organizations supported by the Fund focus on engaging local residents in community-building and restoration projects, improving quality and access to information about recovery and rebuilding, using the arts to foster individual and community healing and impacting critical policy decisions involving land use planning. The Fund supports projects with an emphasis on innovation, collaboration, resiliency and sustainability as New Jersey recovers from Superstorm Sandy.
